My subject matter is found in nature, whether it is a landscape, flower or bird. I'm a native Oregonian and am energized and inspired when outdoors, experiencing beauty, wonder, joy and calm. These are feelings I challenge myself to portray through my brushes as I paint. I like to encourage the viewer with my nature inspired art focusing on the many wonderful things that we often miss in our day-to-day life, such as these hummingbird paintings I've submitted for Portland Open Studios.
My creative process is simple. I start by selecting a few reference photos from my own camera, to remind me of what I'd like to create. I paint the image and fill in any blocks and background color with acrylic paint. I then add oil paint for depth and contrast, as well as any final details needed.
