Helen Kennedy

My art focuses on natural fibers and how they interact, alone or in combination. Using wet or nuno felting, botanical dyeing, shibori, knitting, and stitching, I blend wool, silk, linen, cotton, and bamboo. Using these techniques and fibers I explore the magical and surprising interaction of color, texture, and line.
As an artist I am dedicated to sustainability and regenerative practices. Inspired by the natural world, I often color fibers using botanical dyes such as indigo, madder, weld, cochineal, marigolds, and foraged nuts and wood. Many grow in my garden.
I have been creating with fiber and fabrics since childhood. I reduced practicing these skills while employed in non-profit management. In 2008, I rekindled and expanded this art form often working with nationally recognized fiber artists specializing in wet and nuno felting, botanical dyeing, eco-printing, surface design and shibori.
