In my artistic practice, I strive to appreciate the familiar and commonplace parts of each day. Through my paintings, I use still life and found objects as a way to capture how I see the world, to highlight a corner of a room or revel in the way the morning sunlight strikes a windowsill. I carry this ethos through to my sculptural ceramic practice as well, studying familiar objects like water bottles, finding muses everywhere. Both at the pottery bench and the easel, I make use of vibrant color, organic shapes, and interesting texture. These are often the characteristics that pull at my attention, making me stop and take a second look at a potted plant or colorful blanket, so I find it appropriate to incorporate the joy these qualities bring me into the work I make.
