Tatyana Ostapenko
I was born and raised in Ukraine and my art practice is fueled by the collective memory and generational trauma of my homeland. My paintings are deeply rooted in the past and attempt to evoke moments that happen at the juncture of erased, imagined and personal histories.
A distinguishing feature of my artwork is the combination of realistic rendering and bold abstract paint application. Having started my artistic journey as a street photographer, I use photos and digital collage to generate compositions which I transform through the use of saturated color and bold brushwork to create a sense of a vivid dream that is just starting to fade upon waking.
