Traditional Intarsia woodworking is the art of creating a mosaic-like picture from wood pieces. My art is a contemporary spin on this ancient art form. I transform reclaimed wood into one-of-a-kind nature and landscape designs. Nature is my joy and source for inspiration. I strive to create interest in my work my amplifying intricate details in the natural world; and what better way to do that than with nature itself. Reclaimed wood pieces are selected for their color, texture, and grain movement. Each piece is hand cut to size using a scroll saw. Some pieces shaped with various hand tools and torched or wire brushed to add texture. The imperfections, blemishes, and everyday wear and tear of time make each piece unique. Pieces maybe embellished with acrylics, inks, or stains. Repurposing wood gives new life to these items and helps to reduce landfill waste; but it also adds a sense of exploration. I never know what materials I may have the opportunity to work with next; that gives me a challenge, and keeps me excited with possibility. Nothing brings me greater joy than sharing my passion for art and nature with others. I hope my work inspires creativity in your home and new outdoor explorations of your own.
