Erin Cadena

As a lover of nature, I am drawn to placing marks on canvas, placing one color beside another to convey light and emotion. The unifying theme in my work is strong color and abstract shapes. I predominately paint in oil and cold wax. I begin each painting with some form of inspiration, a photo or a scene which I feel a strong resonance with. The painted image itself shifts and changes through multiple layers; the final result often being quite different from the original inspiration. I respond to the natural evolution of my painting, allowing it to direct itself.
Words are inadequate in conveying our heartfelt experiences and the deep meaning we derive from them. Only through color and shape can I express the profound reverence and joy of watching colors play against the sky, or seeing light filter through a wooded forest. My sincere hope is that through this drive to explore and create, I will find shared meaning with you, and the peace and kindness that exist in our world.
