Janie Lowe

I consider my new work not landscapes, but dreamscapes, or “memoryscapes”. I am interested in the light and color we take from places that are meaningful to us and linger in our memories. What are the minimal elements that build a visual image in our mind’s eye and the feelings we have about that place? What gives a place it’s energy that makes it feel like home or a place we remember? These paintings begin with a strong memory, and move toward obscurity, where it’s a little fuzzy around the edges. Through these paintings, I attempt to use color and light to capture the spirit and create a sense of place.
