Linda Robertson

I try to live my life with compassion knowing that we are all, in some ways, broken. I firmly believe that most people are trying to do their best, choosing to rise, dreaming new dreams, and working hard to walk away from yesterday. My own tragedies seem minor compared to so many others but our collective voices are gathering into a chorus and coming through loud and clear in my art. I thought I was making paintings about something else, but now I see the real thread and I want to share it with my community.

My work pairs modern materials with ancient technique to produce a luminous surface that captures and reflects light. Working with encaustic wax I layer hot beeswax, pigment and resin together, adding and subtracting layers until I get the look I want. The translucency of the wax creates layers of information, like the sediment of time, while stirring the senses of sight, smell, and touch.
