Lisa Wiser

Painting has been part of my life for over 50 years. Landscapes have taken my attention for the past ten years. In the warmer months, I paint outdoors. Winter finds me in the warmth of my home studio reworking studies from the summer or creating new works from travel photos. I am attracted to subjects that express nature with a nod towards human activity. Typically this may include farmland, pathways, and wooded trails. Currently, my landscapes are driven by moody light and unusual weather effects. After years of watercolor painting, I have moved to acrylics to work on larger formats where I feel more challenged. I like to use textural and linear features to draw the viewer into my work.
When working outside I start with a Grisaille directly on canvas to establish overall compositional structure. I find water soluble oils perfect for almost all outdoor conditions. In the studio, I employ a grid to create an initial line drawing to establish my composition.
