My work depicts ordinary people in everyday situations, but with a quirky, offbeat point of view. While my paintings are not exactly whimsical, they are definitely playful, with a healthy dose of gravity.
I produce cartoony worlds in which ambiguity is in sharp focus. I like to create settings where the unclear is clearly happening and the unrecognizable seems vaguely familiar. I use outlined imagery that is flat and constrained, a style that suits my preference for edgy but droll humor. What begins as scribbly doodles on scraps of paper slowly evolves into controlled images precisely painted on canvas. I like my paintings to be enigmatic but accessible, thought-provoking, and a little off the wall.
