2019 Artists

Carrie Carlson

I have been working with ceramics since 1995. My work is primarily functional wheel-thrown pieces such as mugs, cups, bowls, and wine glasses. I also create hand-built decorative pieces such as hanging moon-phases, bird houses, cheese platters, and hanging planters. My work has many different surface textures. They range from smooth and round for most of my wheel thrown pieces to printed or textured by using stamps or lace. I love combining glazes to create interesting interactions or to try to capture the unique landscape of the Oregon where I have lived all my life. I was drawn to ceramics because it has all of the elements: Earth, water, air, and fire (and symmetry). Working with clay makes me present and focused. I love that it is both so simple and so incredibly complex. My most favorite thing about ceramics is that it can be given as a gift, used to share food or flowers, or to connect people together through a process or a story. I hope you come check-out our studio and gallery space.
