The primary focus in my plein air and studio painting is to celebrate the uniqueness and beauty of the world around me. I have a deep love of nature and enjoy interpreting and celebrating the changing seasons, patterns in the landscape and observing the effects of light, atmosphere and subtleties of color. I particularly enjoy plein air painting on location, but also spend hours in my studio completing plein air work, working on larger paintings and painting still lives.
I generally start with a loose drawing for composition and quickly add a colorful under painting, often emphasizing complementary colors. From there I add local color emphasizing the effects of light and shadow and movement in the composition. I always strive to open the eyes of the viewer to the wonder and glory of creation.
