I am primarily a painter. My imagery is drawn from the experience of my visual and emotional world. Nature, landscape, figures and daily life are jumping off points for exploration of color, texture, line and form. I scrape, sand and repaint until I achieve layers of color and texture that give depth to my work. This manipulation of the surface can obscure or reveal the history of previous marks. The unintended consequences of this process can be most surprising and beautiful. I also employ monotypes as a complimentary medium. The immediacy of the process allows me to play with composition, color and fluid mark making that I can translate to my paintings in oils.
