Using a variety of materials, I create paintings that are abstract and non-objective. I am drawn to antiquity, loving that which is ancient and worn with layers that evoke a bit of nostalgia and mystery. In my paintings, I build up many layers, and working intuitively, I add and subtract layers throughout this painting process so that at least a hint of the earlier history is revealed. The scratching, mark-making and symbols add a bit of a raw and organic effect while the larger color fields allow the eye a quiet place to rest. Whatever the process, I strive to steer the work toward an attitude of joy and wonder.
