Carrie Carlson

Carrie Carlson Ceramic pieces are fired in small batches and are all one of a kind. She primarily works from the potters wheel creating mugs, bowls, heart dishes, bud vases and wine glasses. Her work also includes hand-built plates, hanging moon-phases, and hanging planters. She creates interesting surface textures through the use of stamps or pressing vintage lace into the clay. The glaze combinations she uses include flashy metallics, layered jewel tones, and simplistic primary colors. Her goal is to create totally unique pieces that induce the feeling of holding buried treasure, staring deep into the cosmos, or gazing out over the beautiful Oregon landscape where she has lived her whole life. The process of transforming raw clay into the finished pieces involves multiple stages of treatment and firing, each ranging in time and complexity to complete. The average piece takes 3 weeks from start to finish.

Carrie has been creating ceramics for over 25 years and shares her home studio with her husband Matt Carlson who teaches art at a local high school. Together with their twin boys, Carrie and Matt host local art events in their garage gallery space, supporting and celebrating other local talents and raising money for causes that are important to them. After the birth of their twins, Carrie started her new job as a full time mom after working in the non-profit sector for over half a century. Making ceramics is her creative outlet and her cherished way of connecting with her community.
