Chris Beanes
I am inspired by gritty landscapes, alongside natural ones. Having lived in Saigon, Vietnam the last 10 years, I developed a painting style juxtaposing the natural and artificial. The previous paintings documented the rapidly changing landscape of Saigon, a transformation viewed from my bicycle. I found beauty in the contrast between the industrial and the natural environment. The most recent cactus and desert pieces are from the landscapes of Guanajuato Mexico. I find beauty in the natural and unnatural, with color and contrast. The acrylic paintings on masonite have been painted late 2023-present.
I continue to work on my brushstroke, relaxing the strokes to convey lightness and movement. Small style changes are apparent to me with each new piece, while many may not see them. My subject matter is landscapes, however, my most recent work focuses on one part of the landscape and finding enough beauty there.
