David Trowbridge
I paint from source images such as nature (plein air), photos, sketches, and sports page clippings. I pluck elements from these sources like rhythm, shape, texture, and color, to use in the construction of the paintings. These are raw materials, and they may be placed in recognizable patterns or not. Throughout the process my attention and inspiration shift back-and-forth between the source material and the painting itself, each one making its demand on what to paint where. It's a collaborative process. I am like a lighting rod connecting the energy from one to the other.
