Deanna Schuerbeke
I am a contemporary painter who grew up on the prairies of Canada and now calls Oregon home. The landscape has a large influence on me and my art. My paintings often draw on the relationship of nature and emotion, the connections between the external world and the internal domain of the soul; the outside finding its way inside, and the reverse.
Painting is a visceral and intuitive exercise. My process is often chaotic, messy, and full of trust and being brave. I've come to realize that the creative act for me is in many ways an integral part of my journey; accepting imperfections, leaning into fear & vulnerability, striving for authenticity, delighting in surprises, and most of all, letting go.
