Emily Pratt
My work reflects a curiosity for weathered objects and environments. I am inspired by the process of finding and transforming three dimensional materials into two dimensional, art collecting worn rusted materials. I explore the beauty and resilience. I hand cut vintage tins, and other metal treasures, then use a hammer and nails to assemble compositions that investigate a response to change and decay. Creating hints of memory, each piece offers a new narrative for the materials I find. From the challenging physicality of making the work to the hardiness of the pieces themselves I deconstruct materials to sanctify the lasting relationship we have with the man-made past.
