Josh Gates
Josh Gates is a painter who works primarily in oil and acrylic. An Oregon-raised longtime Portlander, he is inspired by the rain and the vibrant spectrum of greys found in the ever-changing temperate rainforest climate of the Pacific Northwest, and its interaction with the urban environment. In his Portland scenes, he seeks to capture not just local landmarks, but the unique atmosphere that feels like home.
Josh has been a participating artist in Portland Open Studios since 2019 and joined the board as Treasurer in 2022, bringing diverse experience in public art administration and nonprofit fundraising. As a Deaf artist, he has a passion for uplifting underprivileged and emerging creators, and is excited to help PDXOS continue to expand its mission beyond the annual tour, engaging the Portland community as a year-round resource for artists, supporters of the arts and collectors.
