From a distance my work looks like pointillism drawings made of dots, but upon closer inspection one can see that the marks are hundreds or thousands of tiny numbers and equations, meticulously drawn by hand. The specific numbers and equations I use capture unique details about the form and function of the subject. The marks that compose my mountain series for instance are chemical formulas of their minerals and the viscosity of their magma. Whereas, in my anatomy and physiology series I have etched the ligaments and tendons with their tensile strength and the range of motion of their associated joints, while the muscle bodies are drawn with chemical formulas relating to contraction.

These pieces take around 75 hours to draw and are the culmination of months of research. This science inspired creative process helps me form enduring connections to the concepts I'm learning both as a biology undergrad and from years of independent study. It is my hope that the finished drawings inspire curiosity of the natural world in the viewer, and challenge the concept that any one of us are limited to a purely left of right brained lifepath.

My preferred mediums are scratchboard with ink wash, mixed media on clayboard, and etchings through oil paint on copper plate. My numbers are drawn with fine pigment pens or etched with thin blades and engravers. My work is best seen in person with a magnifying glass, curiosity and a little time.
