Revisiting some FAQ's from our Zoom Meeting

We had a great meeting last week where we answered burning questions from artists looking to fill out the application.   Because most of the artists had the same couple of questions we wanted to post them here.

Do my images have to be square? Most of our advertising and marketing require square images (thank you instagram) . Instead of making the decision for you by cropping your work or putting it on a white background we are asking you to make that decision for yourself.   You can use the website  https://www.canva.com/ and chose the instagram template (which is a square!) with a plain white background and put your image on it if you do not want to crop.

Can I participate in a different place than my studio? Due to COVID we are allowing artists to find an alternative space to participate. The new location does have to be within Portland Open Studios boundaries and the artist must live in Portland. The deadline for the new address is in July so we can start to make our maps and get our marketing in order. We understand not everyone has a formal studio, and we are flexible on where you demonstrate your work during the event - it could be your kitchen table, your garage, even a local business like a coffee shop

Some Hints:  Our jurying process is a blind jury process.  We present the three photos of your work and your artist statement to our jury.  The scoring process is based entirely on these three images. It has been our experience that artists whose work shows consistency and visual voice score better.
