Clay has been a life-long passion for me. I grew up in Buffalo, NY. I was introduced to clay when I was about 8 years old and was hooked. I learned to throw on the wheel when I was 16. I received my BFA from the NYSCC@Alfred University with a concentration in ceramics. Lured by the landscape I eventually moved out to Portland, Oregon. I feel lucky to have landed at Stark Street Studios among artists who challenge and inspire me.
I am continually fascinated by repetition, texture and the inner workings of things whether it's the skeletal structure of a bird, veins in a leaf or rows of crops in a field. I am equally inspired by function, nature, and texture.
"My work explores texture, translucency and form through the medium of porcelain. Simple, functional forms decorated with creatures and textures of the natural world from birds and jellyfish to glaciers and coral. Atmospheric firing is a major aspect in my work. The amalgamation of wood ash and soda interacting with the minerals in the clay create a wonderfully unpredictable surface of color and pattern. And I am continually enthralled by the process." |
