Lynn Everett Read is a glassblower and artist, born in Oceanside, California in 1970. Growing up as the youngest of four older siblings, Lynn was exposed to various creative activities that inspired his interest in building and creating things by hand. He pursued his passion for creativity by exploring various disciplines during middle school and high school. Lynn completed a two-year program at Linn-Benton Community College, where he worked in the theater department building props, sets, and painting backdrops. Later, Lynn pursued a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in Sculpture Studies at the
Maryland Institute College of Art. During his senior year, he discovered a fascination for glass and started an apprenticeship in glassblowing. Since then, Lynn's passion for glass has only intensified, and he has gained a highly regarded reputation for his distinctively creative work, employing a wide range of glassblowing techniques. Lynn has created works for renowned figures such as Eva Zeisel. His pieces can be found in the permanent collection Jordan Schnitzer, and the Muskegon Museum of Art. He has been a resident artist at Autonoma in Murano, Italy. And a Hauberg Fellow at Pilchuck Glasss School. His designs have been featured in a variety of publications including American Craft Council, Luxe, Elle, Elle Decor and Metropolatain. In 2012 we was awarded "Best Vase" design by Wallpaper Design Magazine.
"My work is a conversation between material and idea, where glass serves as both medium and conceptual framework. Rooted in the lineage of functional objects yet untethered from utility, each piece navigates the tension between tradition and contemporary expression. I approach the material with rigor-planning, refining, repeating-until form, color, and process align into something distilled, atmospheric, and enduring. Influenced by Color Field painting, Bauhaus systems, and the bold silhouettes of the Memphis movement, I work through a language of abstraction. Form is purposeful. Color is choreographed. I draw from textile structures and musical rhythms, finding kinship in systems that build complexity through repetition. My murrine compositions echo patterns found in time, architecture, and nature. Glass is a demanding partner-volatile, precise, and wholly unforgiving. It requires presence and trust in process. I've come to see it not just as a craft, but as a philosophy of making: rooted in discipline, open to improvisation. My objects hold that duality-strict yet playful, abstract yet tactile, graceful yet grounded. |
