Val Hubbard is an intuitive abstract landscape artist whose work is influenced by her surroundings. Her paintings balance the abstraction with suggestions of familiar places. Viewers say her images are familiar but still allow them to expand their own story. Val is a self-taught artist working in acrylic, cold wax and oil. She has a won a Blue Ribbon award from Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts, was a finalist with Camel Back Gallery, Juried into exhibitions at Anita Rogers Gallery in New York, Ford Gallery, PDX Open Studios, Celebration of Creativity and has been in Art in the Village Gallery and Robin Becic Gallery.
Her work has been sold across the country.
"I work intuitively, allowing each layer to unfold in response to something both seen and unseen. I do not replicate what I see but rather try to pull the essence from the form, light, shape, color and atmosphere. These elements are my guideposts as I lay down paint. My intention is to invoke a feeling and presence of a place. I work in acrylic, cold wax and oil and even though my process is the same, the outcome is very different dictated by the media. This is what I find so exciting." |
