Lacy Lowry is a painter who works intuitively to build layered, dynamic compositions. Her abstract environments draw viewers in through rich color palettes and a strong sense of movement. Lacy paints in her home studio in SW Portland. She balances her studio practice with work as a part-time art therapist. Although she has lived in the Pacific Northwest for over 20 years, her work is deeply influenced by her childhood on the Great Plains, where vast, open landscapes shaped her visual language. That sense of expansiveness remains a state of mind she continues to explore in her paintings. Outside the studio, Lowry can often be found on outdoor adventures with her family, geeking out about neuroscience, or enjoying Middle Eastern cuisine.
"I believe art has the capacity to enliven us - to deepen our connection to the natural world, invite joy, and open new ways of understanding lived experience. In my work, I use symbol and abstraction to explore emotional and spiritual states such as intimacy, isolation, change, and release. Seasonal shifts, color relationships, and the rhythms of the natural environment consistently shape the work. The current series I am working on explores the interplay of water and earth in the landscape to capture a conversation between two starkly different and opposing forces. I approach the canvas as a portal to an imaginal space that exists between structure and chaos, form and formlessness - an articulation of fleeting states of mind. Ultimately, my work seeks to create a contemplative atmosphere that gently loosens fixed interpretations, allowing each viewer's own narrative to emerge." |
