Rachel Austin is an artist creating and making in her light filled home studio in SE Portland. Rachel works with a variety of mediums and materials and loves pops of color and bold graphics. She is self taught and has been a full time artist for over 20 years. Her work can be found across the country and in many places in Portland such as the Ritz Carlton, Heathman Hotel and in her showroom inside Urbanite.
"My work has continued to circle back to playing with abstraction and color over my career as an artist. Currently I am exploring tapestries and antique quilt designs as a way of communication. An early memory of working with my mother in a small fabric store inspires this series. Arranging bolts of fabrics, playing with layouts and color and helping customers piece together stories through fabric. My series looks at vintage tapestries and quilts through watercolor and graphic, bold designs." |
