ElizaBeth Rohloff came from a lineage of German seamstress dating back to my great grandmother. Early experiences with fabric and clothing design began at age 8 making various sized doll clothes. She has been handcrafting ever since as a self taught artist. As a milliner and clothing designer, ElizaBeth see herself as an artist whose work is distinguished by engineering and innovative design. An extensive background working as a theatre costumer, and custom fabrication have honed her technician's sensibility. Ever evolving in her 30 plus years, as a teacher, both private and public classes, has pushed her art beyond trends to provide functional, classical and whimsical pieces of wearable art.
"My quality crafted pieces evoke a nostalgia for vintage with classic styles that encourage longevity. Nature is a continual source of inspiration; from sunsets to spiraling seed pods which are a staring point for choosing natural fiber fabrics from second-hand pieces, mill ends and dead stock fabrics. A natural collector, I choose vintage buttons, historical fabrics and images that mix with my keen eye for detail to create one of a kind, statement pieces. Since the 1980's my work has germinated and produced in the green climate of Portland, Or. My goal is self expression to show (or hide) oneself to the world so you may confidently 'dress like you mean it!' " |
