When Lynn Lustberg moved to Oregon more than 30 years ago, she was inspired to explore her artistic side. The natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest and the more relaxed pace of life combined to make this possible. Lynn dipped her toe in the water first with drawing classes, then moved to watercolors, and ultimately found her perfect medium with pastels. She has been working in pastels for more than 25 years but continues to hone her skills and expose herself to varied techniques by attending workshops with many noted pastel artists. She has participated in Southeast Artwalk, Mt. Tabor Artwalk, the Buckman Art Show and Sell, and Portland Open Studios, and has participated in shows at the Architectural Heritage Center and Northwest Place.
"What I love about pastels (in spite of their messiness!) is the intensity and vibrancy of the pigments and the ability to build texture and depth through multiple layers of application and through varying up types of strokes. My paintings start on colored paper or with a watercolor, gouache, or pastel underpainting. I use a mix of hard pastels, soft pastels, and pencils. Many of my personal photos serve as the references for my paintings, which are largely landscapes (particularly with interesting skies, reflections, and light) and still life. My intended audience is anyone who appreciates and finds joy in color and art." |
