Micah Kassell is an artist, designer and musician living in Portland, originally from Silverton, Oregon. He has had several solo shows and has appeared in group shows, both as a represented artist and also independently over the past five years. His work has made it into private collections across the globe and into several Nordstrom locations across the Pacific Northwest. He is currently in a stable of artists to be commissioned for work at the Deschutes County Library and will be in several group shows this spring and summer in the Portland/Seattle area. Although Micah grew up with a father who was a designer and fine artist, he didn't start painting himself until his father's passing in 2016. It started as a means of catharsis but evolved into a serious practice quickly. He continues to wear many hats as a dad, husband, footwear design maven and musician who gigs and tours as the schedule allows. No idle hands in the Kassell Castle!
"My work is intuitive, colorful, loose, sometimes exacting and incorporates a sort of sorcery that mixes object memory, landscape, superimposed mindscape and streamlined still life elements. The marks start naive and sometimes end in a rendered state that alludes to a misty reality that invites the viewer in -- and sometimes they remain raw and unadulterated." |
