Kia Zora is a third-generation painter living and working in Portland Or. Her work examines humanity's interdependent relationship with the living earth, grounded in the belief that remembering our kinship with all life is essential. Through her paintings, she encourages a perspective that regards humanity as stewards within an interconnected system rather than consumers apart from it.
Zora's studies in anatomy and physiology are foundational in her understanding of the systems she represents. Her art practice draws on archetype, ecology, and narrative to articulate a relational understanding of the world. Her process is guided by exploration and sustained attention. Each painting begins with a loose conceptual framework, allowing imagery and form to develop intuitively. Entering a focused flow state is central to her method; in this space, the work unfolds through responsiveness rather than control. This approach reflects the very themes she explores-evolution, interconnection, and the deepening of awareness through relationship. Her work can be found regularly at juried art fairs and many local establishments in and around Portland Or.
"I work with Golden acrylics on canvas or panel, allowing concept and imagery to emerge through an intuitive, process-driven approach. Each piece begins with a loose idea and develops through layered glazing, with careful attention to color relationships, saturation, and compositional balance. These elements guide the evolution of the painting, shaping both its visual structure and expressive content. Embracing improvisation and spontaneity, I allow forms and meanings to arise organically, mirroring nature's processes of emergence and connection while holding traces of the past and gestures toward what is still unfolding." |
