Sarah Ferguson is a visual artist living and working in the Pacific Northwest. She creates mixed media work in two and three dimensions, finding inspiration in the natural world and in life's stories and experiences. Her work has been exhibited in solo exhibitions and juried shows throughout Oregon and the west. Sarah worked as a teaching artist for 25 years, collaborating with children to create art for murals and installations in their schools. She also partnered with artists and musicians to develop bilingual storytelling programs with puppets and music, which were performed in libraries throughout Oregon. She has been awarded several grants by the Regional Arts and Culture Council for artist-in-education and community art projects. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with distinction, from the California College of the Arts. Sarah lives with her husband Richard in Portland, Oregon.
"I am a visual artist who makes my home in the Pacific Northwest, I find inspiration in nature, story and process. My mixed media work includes collage, fiber construction, and sculpture. The papers I construct with are relief printed from plant materials, or mono-printed on glass then painted on the reverse. These elements are layered and collaged to give them strength, then folded, pierced, glued and stitched together as the idea takes form. Beads, driftwood, sticks, and stitching add texture and extra dimension to the work. The completed work is attached with Velcro to a lightweight plywood backing with a hook for hanging." |
