M. Aurora Oliva

M. Aurora Oliva is a Filipino-American self-taught abstract artist.  She immigrated to the United States with her parents in the 1980's.  Aurora grew up and was educated in New Jersey. As a child and young adult she was creative and was never far from a museum.   Making art is a fairly recent adventure.  It all coalesced during the pandemic.   Aurora has has had solo shows at GO Gallery (formerly Guardino Gallery) in Portland and Cambium Gallery in Astoria.   She will be having a solo show in August 2026 at The Ford Gallery in Portland.   Aurora welcomes visitors to her studio through out the year.

"I am self-taught and drawn to bright, saturated colors, rhythmic patterns, and geometric shapes. My work is predominantly abstract acrylic painting. Often, my process is meditative and contemplative. I don't think about rules because I never learned them. I rely heavily on gut instincts. I find comfort in the repetition of geometric forms. There's something universal about geometric shapes that transcends time and culture and pulls me in. My goal is to bring joy to the viewer and create visual tension and movement in my paintings. Finding beauty and balance in imperfection is what ignites me. By disrupting patterns, I allow the work to breathe beyond order and symmetry."
