Carolina Tello Zeleski, was born in Vina del Mar, Chile and immigrated to the United States when she was only 17 years old. She is an award winning illustrator, concept artist and art director who has worked in the video games industry for 20 years. She holds a degree in Traditional Illustration from the Academy of Art University, and spends her free time painting and needle felting in her Portland studio.
She is on the board of the Concept Art Association and serves as a commissioner and vice chair for the Beaverton Arts Commission.
She believes that art making is a fundamental human need, and she enjoys sharing her love for drawing, painting and crafting with people of all ages at her teaching studio inside Art School PDX.
"My work is inspired by my experiences growing up as an undiagnosed autistic woman in Chile, and later as a young immigrant to the United States. My paintings and drawings investigate feelings of anxiety and questioning around identity, societal roles, gender expectations, lost memories and belonging. My mediums of choice are acrylic, watercolors, ink and pastels. I draw and paint mostly on board, sometimes treated, sometimes not. I like the wood showing through. I also paint on canvas and paper. I paint women and animals, because I feel there are inherent life struggles in their stories that I feel connected to and compelled to expose and share. As I paint, my own internal narrative evolves through the painting process, and serves as a distilling of my own experiences. The painting becomes a tool of my own catharsis left for the viewer to pick up and make their own." |
