Lisa Laser works from her home studio in Portland, Oregon. She earned a bachelor's degree in Political Science while taking many art classes and working at a frame shop and art supply store. After raising a family she started working full time as an artist. She paints with oil and acrylic on wood, canvas, paper and anything else she finds on her walks around her neighborhood. Lisa is mostly a self-taught artist, working 4-8 hours a day at least 4 days a week, mostly so she stays sane.
Lisa has representation at Brassworks Gallery and Salem on the Edge and had solo shows at both galleries in 2025 as well as being in 4 group shows. She is a member of the Concordia Arts Collective a small group of artists who work together to create art events in their neighborhood. In 2026 she will be in multiple group shows: the Heavy PETting Show at Brassworks Gallery, The Erotica Show at Salem on the Edge, and the 5x5 Loud and Clear Show at Purple Door Gallery all in February, Buckman Show & Tell in March, Mint Gallery Records in April, Concordia Garden and Art Tour in June, with a few other events still shaping up.
"My favorite way to paint is with oil on wood. Wood allows for scraping and layering, and oil allows for a meditative rhythm where there is time to step back and let my work breathe for a while. I comb my neighborhood for wood and other surfaces to paint on: chairs, chopping blocks, building discards, rocks. I often start with a base of acrylic to have a flash of bright color that can peek through the finished oil work. I love mixing colors, the smell, the suppleness, and the depth found in oil paint. Most of what I'm drawn to painting revolves around the ideas of vulnerability and strength with a dose of humor. We all experience loss and heartbreak and disappointment. We also experience joy, love, and community. |
