Nancy Brown

Nancy Brown

Nancy Brown has been painting for over 20 years. She started with oils but has been painting in acrylics for over 18 years now.  During the last 18 years she has been part of a creative community (Arthouse 23) at the studio where she paints and will be displaying her work during the open studios. She says she is a social artist in that she gets inspiration from this community, and it has informed her artistic development.

Her style is generally abstract to representational. Her work for the last few years incorporates collage elements. Recent works show her current interest in combining the textures, colors and patterns of papers, fabrics and other materials with paint into the mosaics that become her paintings. Inspiration comes from the images and structures in both nature and architecture. The shapes in the paintings show the order and geometry of the inspirational image while the surface shows the abstract and random qualities of the materials.

Nancy has been displaying/selling her work at various local shows and venues in the past 17 years.

"In my recent work, paper has become my palette. The patterns and textures of various papers inspire me and guide the creation of each new piece. By layering these papers with ephemera, acrylic paint, and stencils, I add complexity and depth to the composition. Each painting begins with a color or image that sparks my imagination. From there, I select papers, fabrics, and other materials to begin constructing the mosaics that define my work. I never know exactly where the materials will lead me-each piece is a unique and intuitive journey."
