Native to the West Coast and a graduate of California Polytechnic University in Applied Art and Design, Brenda Boylan began her creative career as a designer for high-profile sportswear clients. Ten years later, she returned to her passion for painting and has never looked back. Inspired by the Impressionists, her color-filled paintings have received national Master recognitions with the Pastel Society of America, International Association of Pastel Societies, and Signature recognitions with the American Impressionist Society and the Northwest Pastel Society.
Because she enjoys being outdoors, Brenda practices and teaches painting en plein air and has been a featured instructor at the PACE, and IAPS conventions. Her work has been published in The Pastel Journal (cover story), Plein Air Magazine, Pratiques Des Arts (France), The Art of Plein Air Painting, and The Best of America Pastel. Brenda has also created a Signature product line of Jack Richeson Pastels. Currently, her most satisfying accomplishment is filming an instructional painting video through Streamline Publishing's video series.
Brenda's art is represented and available online through Illume Gallery of Fine Art, DragonFire Gallery, Lovetts Gallery, and Art Elements Gallery.
"My approach to creativity stems from an investigative curiosity. I embrace my art-making like a child without boundaries, while pushing and pulling color with controlled playfulness. I enjoy all creative media; however, I prefer to use pastel and oil as my primary method of visual communication. The joy of stretching rules allows new ideas to flourish, all while color, composition, and intention are held tight. This intimate process allows immense freedom while artistic principles keep me in line. What if? Why not? How fun!" |
