Gesine grew up in a small town in Germany and studied art at Kunstakademie Stuttgart, Germany, followed by an MA in animation at the Royal College of Art in London. After a few years of freelance animation work in England, she moved to Portland in 1995 to take up full time work in stop motion animation.
Since about 2013 Gesine has been a full time sculptor and concentrating on her personal art, creating small and medium scale sculptures with a humorous twist. Her art has been exhibited along the West Coast and in Germany.
"I come from a background of working in stop motion animation. These days I am working as a sculptor full time, largely in clay, with occasional excursions into other materials. Most of my sculptures are small to medium sized and almost always painted with acrylics. My focus is on sculptural work with a humorous twist. I love to invent creatures and situations for them to be in, depicting everyday stories of triumph and failure." |
