Karrie Amiton was born on the east side of the Cascades and moved to Portland as a child so that her father could play in the Symphony as a classical violinist. Karrie also played the violin but began to draw and paint which led to a lifelong love of the visual arts. She studied art and architecture at Portland State University and also studied marble sculpture with master sculptor Joseph Conrad and became the first female stone cutter in Oregon. (Joe thought the west coast!). While designing a trade show booth she painted scenes on the backside of the windows. This led her to develop unique techniques not found in any other examples of this medium. She continues to paint on glass and has developed a unique way to frame finished pieces in floater frames.
Her work is on display at local galleries, has been invited to many regional events and juried shows and is in private collections nationwide. Presently her work is at Sidestreet Art Gallery and is on permanent display at Conrad Stone Gallery in Portland, Oregon. She is a long time member of The Bridge City Artists, an all woman critique group of serious professional artists who meet monthly and also occasionally have group shows. She also volunteered for years teaching art to residents of an adult senior living facility.
"I am a painter in Portland, Oregon. I studied art and architecture at Portland State University and began painting full time many years ago. My studio is full of work in progress, multiple pieces in multiple styles and media. Here and there are parts and pieces of abstract acrylic on canvas with inks and oil pastel, watercolor paintings with exotic inks and charcoal and reverse paintings on glass (verre eglomaise). The glass pieces are both mysterious and unexplainable to the viewer. |
