Laura Pritchard lives in the Sellwood-Westmoreland neighborhood of Portland. She first encountered soft pastels at a workshop with Kitty Wallis and found the vibrant colors and direct application of pigment exciting and fun. She's participated in group exhibitions in Oregon, Washington and California with the West Coast, Northwest and Oregon pastel societies and other organizations. She's taken numerous workshops and classes from pastel artists that she admires.
"My work is inspired by northwest landscapes (including close-in garden landscapes) and also by the planes, shadows and reflections of still life subjects. I typically paint with soft pastels on sanded paper, often with a watercolor or ink underpainting. Over the last several years I've begun painting on location as well as in the studio." |
