Elizabeth Webber is an artist and teacher who lives in Portland, Oregon. She studied painting and textiles at Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia and works and teaches at her studio in Portland's Central Eastside. Last year, Elizabeth had two solo shows: "Breathing Room" at biography in July 2025 and "Color Stories" at The Art Hall in October 2025. In addition, she has participated in multiple group shows at area gallery spaces, including Soliloquy Fine Arts, Brassworks Gallery, Ford Gallery, Radius Art Studio and Oregon Society of Artists. Her work currently is in collections in New York, Pennsylvania, California and Oregon and she will be an artist-in-residence at Jen Tough Gallery in Santa Fe this September.
"For me, creating art is about curiosity, deep observation and separating the essential from the non-essential: making sense of the world while also "deepening the mystery", as Francis Bacon once said. I work both abstractly and representationally, using a variety of media, including charcoal, graphite, pastel, oil, gouache and textiles. I draw from many inspirations, including my own biography and experience, history and literature, music, the natural world, relationships and universal concepts and themes. I seek to create pieces with both visual and emotional impact, through the intentional use of dramatic value, light, shadow and color. In my work, I hope to express what it means to be both human and connected to something greater than ourselves." |
