Patti Vrobel lives and works in Portland Oregon and has a studio in Workshop St. John. She knew that art was going to be a big part of her life from the moment that she was introduced to drawing and painting in middle school. However she went down another path of creative problem solving with a career in engineering knowing that there would be a day when she would come full circle and work on being a professional artist. That time has come.

"My work while representational is a journey to simplify form to its basic planes of color and value. I am interested in taking on the challenge of saying the most by showing the least and doing it in a way that gives the subject energy. I typically paint with larger brushes and I like to use the energy of the stroke to achieve a bolder statement but also in some instances to use its texture and direction to provide patterns or contrast to showcase a point of interest. There are millions of magnificent colors that are blended into the reality that we see in the natural world. I love the idea of exposing beautiful color in an unblended fashion as a way to explore that color and still be believable. People who like my work tend to enjoy the boldness of color choices that I use and tend to pick up on the energy even though it may be somewhat intangible. Most recently, my focus has been scenes from the outdoors but I don't hold myself to any particular subject. I have an active practice in figure drawing using charcoal and drawing the human form complements my work in oil painting. My intention as an artist is to reflect the times in which I live and share both the learnings of my personal life experiences as well as record narratives of our shared experiences."
